    The Colour of Poppies

'The Colour of Poppies' is a novel in which two plots are interwoven: the story of the International Brigades in Albacete, where their headquarters were located, and the story of a woman who fights for the exhumation of her grandfather’s remains. It is a novel that narrates previously untold events surrounding the young volunteers who came to fight in Spain.
The two women protagonists share the name Encarna – as if they were counterparts reflecting each other half a century apart. We meet the three translators and interpreters who volunteered to travel to Albacete from different countries: Elisa, French; Eyleen, English; and Gina, Argentinian of Russian origin. Other unforgettable characters also appear, such as Gloria, an Uruguayan lawyer, and Rosa María, a librarian from Albacete.
The text was written after a long and meticulous process of documentation which does not interfere with the development of the action. An entertaining novel, with a good narrative pace, which is aimed at both young and adult readers. You will suddenly find yourself engaged in the action, witnessing remarkable discoveries about our present and most recent past.
